5 good reasons to stay at Villa Augeval for your All Saints holidays/midterm break

L’histoire de la famille Montier débute avec Michèle et Gérard. Elle travaille au service des prêts de la Caisse d’Epargne, lui à l’Hôtel Le Normandy où il gravit petit à petit les échelons avant d’obtenir le poste de chef barman. Il souhaite se mettre à son compte et ils prennent alors tous deux le risque, avec les conseils de leur banquier, d’acheter La Flambée en 1979, une villa transformée en restaurant. La clientèle s’y fait fidèle et devient alors renommée.

L’opportunité se présente alors en 1986 d’ouvrir un hôtel juste au-dessus du restaurant, il s’agit de l’Hôtel Le Trophée. Il s’agrandit au fil des années avec une piscine dans la cours centrale et l’achat de maisons adjacentes afin de créer de nouvelles chambres et un réel cocon au coeur de la ville. Le couple saute sur de nouvelles opportunités en 1993, date d’ouverte de la Villa Augeval, une villa de la fin du XIXe siècle où aurait séjourné Gilbert Bécaud. Classée villa remarquable, elle conserve sa façade d’époque, l’intérieur a été entièrement refait mais conserve un charme particulier et authentique avec, notamment, de belles cheminées. En 2004 le couple rachète la villa le Trait d’Union située juste à côté afin d’étendre le nombre de chambres, les deux villas sont aujourd’hui reliées par une véranda. En 2008 Michèle et Gérard inaugurent l’Hôtel Almoria, projet possible grâce à un promoteur immobilier.

Aujourd’hui ce sont leurs deux filles, Sandrine et Delphine qui gèrent respectivement la Villa Augeval et l’Hôtel Le Trophée. L’Hôtel Almoria, quant à lui, est aux commandes du gendre du couple, François Bellanger, qui, professeur de golf, a été piqué par l’histoire familiale.

The Montier’s story begins with Michèle and Gérard. She worked at the loan service of La Caisse d’Epargne, he worked at the hotel Le Normandy where he climbed the career ladder little by little before gaining the post of Barman in chief. He wished to be self-employed and thus they took the risk to buy La Flambée, a villa turned into a restaurant in 1979, thanks to their banker’s advices. The customers became loyal and the restaurant became well-recognised for its services.

In 1986, the opportunity of opening a hotel above the restaurant showed up: It was Le Trophée. The building grew up more and more as the years passed by. For example, thanks to a swimming pool in the chore of the garden, and thanks to the surrounding houses bought to create new rooms and a real bubble of serenity in the chore of the city of Deauville.

The couple did not hesitate to jump on new opportunities: 1993 was the opening date of Villa Augeval. An “Outstanding” classified house built at the end of the 19^th century where Gilbert Bécaud (a famous French singer) might have stayed. The Villa kept its original façade while the interior was totally renovated but also kept its character with, as for example, beautiful chimneys.

In 2004, the couple bought the villa next to the Villa Augeval: “Trait d’Union” (“Hyphen”) to extend the rooms capacity of the hotel. Today, the two houses are connected thanks to a beautiful veranda.

In 2008, Michel and Gérard inaugurated the Almoria hotel, a project made possible thanks to the help of a promoter.

Nowadays, their two daughters Sandrine and Delphine respectively manage the Villa Augeval and the hotel Le Trophée. The hotel Almoria is now managed by François, their son-in-law. He was a golf teacher before overseeing the hotel, but he found a genuine emotional connection with the family’s story.
